This February algorithm update is the latest so far, and aims to enhance content quality and relevance.
The February 2026 Google update changed category performance. Unlike before (favored high-trust, service-oriented niches), now it significantly impacted previously dominant category companies.
Let’s provide more insights here.
Before the update, some of the winners were Food & Drink (5.0), Health (4.8), and Finance (4.5) were on the of the list. They showed strong demand and high traffic potential.
However, post-update results shifted leadership to Law & Government (4.5), Pets & Animals (4.4), and Home & Garden (4.4).
These categories offer practical advice, clear regulations, and solutions for daily issues. This change suggests Google enhanced signals related to authority, trust, and depth of information a lot.
On the flip side, several previous leaders saw declines.
Take Food & Drink, Health, and Finance, for example: all fell in rankings. This means stricter quality standards in YMYL-related and commercial areas are applied now.
Mid-tier categories like People & Society, Shopping, and Hobbies & Leisure grew more competitive.
However, they still didn’t reach the top. The biggest underperformers were Arts & Entertainment, Books & Literature, and Internet & Telecom. This reinforces the idea that lighter, trend-driven, or aggregation-heavy content likely loses visibility.
The February 2026 update prefers authoritative content, matches user intent, and is backed by people’s experience (this is for expertise). It moves away from volume-driven or generalized publishing strategies (generated through AI, for example) and low-quality AI content as well.
Onyx8’s SEO advice:
